The SKS is in your pocket, the wanderlust is calling, now it's time to get going. But many people are feeling a little uneasy at this point.
Is one week of practical training from SKS enough?
What if we encounter difficult weather?
Technical problems turn the sailing trip into a night trip.
Unfamiliar, narrow ports may require different mooring maneuvers and line work. Many questions arise. There is simply a lack of practice.
This is where our sailing school comes in with the skipper training and advanced training trips. The skippers from the Rhine-Moselle boat school practice working with lines with you, practice harbor and MOB maneuvers with you and, if necessary, show you how to sail with AIS and radar. Ship safety and technology are also on the program. As your sailing school, we want to build up with you on the SBF See, but above all the SKS, in our advanced training trips. Seamanship, route planning, dealing with and calculating ocean currents and tides are also on the program, as is detailed daily weather information over coffee in the morning on the trip. A night trip and much more are included.
Many questions arise after the SKS. Most of the time, there is simply a lack of practice. Here we have a trip that is difficult for a beginner to master alone in terms of the area and yacht.
This is where our sailing school comes in with the skipper training and advanced training trips in Brittany. In Brittany we go out into the Atlantic. We learn a lot about tide and current calculations according to ATT, the British system. Anyone who has learned this with us can navigate safely around the world. The use of various nautical instruments, such as AIS etc. is also part of the program. Ship safety and technology are also on the program. As your sailing school, we want to build on the SBF See with you on our advanced training trips, but above all on the SKS. Seamanship, route planning, calculating departure times, clearance heights and harbor entrances are everyday life. How do I get over the bar into the harbor and, above all, at what time do I have how much water under the keel? Daily weather information over coffee in the morning on the trip is a matter of course. Night trips, numerous lights and navigation marks and much more round off the program.
Very fast and modern yachts, such as the Pogo 36 or RM-Yacht, have hull speeds of over 10 knots, making it possible to reach daily targets that are completely out of reach with a classic cruising yacht. With the possible speed/SOG, 100% fun is guaranteed.
The offer is aimed at customers with initial sailing experience.
A Channel crossing is planned; if this is not possible due to weather conditions, we will sail along the south coast of England around and near the Isle of Wight.
A fantastic sailing area awaits us. Great harbors such as Lymington, Cowes, Portsmouth or we can sail into the Newton River (it's not really wide) or the Beaulieu River. Marinas with top facilities are standard in England.
If everything goes well, we will sail the leg to Cherbourg or St. Vaast in France, for example. We will learn more about dealing with tides according to ATT (used worldwide). Tidal currents with springs of 5 knots or more are not uncommon and require a different approach to the yacht. Route planning - passage planning and pilotage are of course part of the program. There are plenty of navigation marks and beacons. Traffic from large ships beyond 300 meters is the order of the day here. Night sailing is a given. We will practice using various nautical instruments and various methods of determining your position, because cross-bearing is not always the best way to get to the destination. You also have to be able to handle things when the technology fails.
Why do we start in England and not in France?
Traveling to Cherbourg, for example, would be cheaper and quicker. Unfortunately, there are no yachts in Cherbourg that can be reliably booked, and there are always last-minute cancellations, a nightmare for customers. If we start in St. Malo, the distance for the Channel Crossing is roughly doubled, which can be a time problem in difficult weather. The other advantage of the Isle of Wight is that if the general weather does not permit the Channel Crossing, we will still have a great week of sailing in England by covering the Isle of Wight itself, an exciting area.
