- The exam is possible from 15 years and 9 months. The inland and sea boating license is issued by the examination board at the age of 16

INFORMATION ON THE VALIDITY OF BOAT LICENSES
The inland boating license is an official pleasure boating license. It is required on the Moselle and Rhine near Koblenz, for example, and is valid internationally. The inland boating license entitles you to drive motorized vehicles/sailing yachts and jet skis with a power output of more than 15 HP on inland waters, i.e. fresh water. On inland waterways, such as the Moselle near Winningen - Koblenz, the inland boating license is valid for vehicles up to 19.99 m long. On Lake Constance, the inland boating license entitles you to drive a boat for 4 weeks once a calendar year using the special use permit.
TIP: You may want to supplement your inland boating license with the UBI VHF radio license. This will enable you to contact ships or locks directly. If you want to operate a watercraft with radio equipment, the UBI radio license is required by law.

COURSE STRUCTURE

Theory course
Inland sports boating license, theory lessons
- Saturdays, from 09.00 - approx. 1600 hrs --> SBF - Inland Theory Day
FURTHER INFORMATION:
- Arrange boating lessons at the same time or in good time (at least 3 weeks in advance, if possible) by telephone at the boating school. If required, you can repeat the SBF theory course - at no extra cost - at the Rhine-Moselle boating school on one of the next weekend courses. A request by email is sufficient. It is best to start answering the official exam questionnaires at home immediately after the SBF course. This is the best way to remember what you have learned and to prepare for your exam straight away.
EXAMS:
- The theoretical and practical exams can - but do not have to - be taken on the same day. If you feel ready for the sports boating license exam, choose an exam date that suits you. Then register for the exam (at least 7 days in advance). You pay the exam fees directly to the committee. You can find all the information on our Exams page.
ISSUE OF DRIVING LICENSE:
- After passing the SBF inland or sea exam at the DSV, the boating license is issued and sent by the Federal Printing Office. If you are in a hurry, the DSV can also issue you with a provisional sports boating license. If you would like this, please apply for and pay for it when registering for the exam.
